Sunday 5th February - A reminder to those of you who have Exmoor Ponies .... you may remember Mary Bromiley's message from June last year: "Monday 13th June - Exmoor pony owners urged to try 50 miles at Horseshoe Ride - World-famous equine physiotherapist Mary Bromiley has put up a £100 prize for the first Exmoor pony to successfully complete 50 competitive miles in one day at the Golden Horseshoe Ride.
Now the Ride organisers are also offering a permanent trophy to go with the cash incentive.
“I know they can do it,” Mary said. “At the first Horseshoe in 1965 a number of Exmoors completed the 50-mile linear route and then hacked back at the end of the day.
“It’s all down to the preparation.”
So .... come on you Exmoor Pony owners, this is something to aim for! Let's prove Mary right and show how well-suited the Exmoors are to Endurance!
Sunday 22nd January - A number of riders enquire each year about the possibility of a one-day 40km class at Golden Horseshoe - the view of the Organising Committee is as follows: "The Golden Horseshoe Ride is a different challenge to most UK rides, and should remain a challenge, giving a real sense of achievement on completion.
Anyone who feels that their horse cannot complete a 2 x 40K class has the option of entering the Pleasure Ride, to get a taste of the event. This is the only class that novice horses and riders are able to enter. We have no plans to add any extra classes to the annual schedule.
However, for the Horseshoe's 50th anniversary in 2015, there will be (for one year only) one or more 'special' classes in order to encourage as many people as possible to come down to Exmoor and celebrate with us, 50 years of Golden Horseshoe (and organised endurance riding in the UK)."
Saturday 14th January - Why not come down to Exmoor for the Horseshoe Training Ride on 3rd March when part of this year's Horseshoe route will be included in this ride? Get a feel for what is in store in May - hill training is strongly recommended for Golden Horseshoe. Get more information and download an entry form from the Wessex EGB website.
Sunday 8th January - Two days without rain, so Ian and Barbara Wigley have been out researching parts of this year's route again - today was the turn of Ley Hill, across the valley from Webbers Post - I'm sure the pictures of Granny's Ride will whet your appetites and get you inspired ..... entries now being taken!!

Tuesday 3rd January 2012 - The route for this year's ride is now coming together and Barbara Wigley, Chair of the Organising Committee, urges competitors to get busy on their hill work as the "Punchbowl" will be included in the routes for all the competitive classes!!
